Why Paddleboard on Derwentwater?
Derwentwater feels completely different to some of the larger lakes, it’s surrounded by steep fells, wooded islands, and the dramatic skyline of the Borrowdale Valley. It’s definitely up there as one of the most scenic places to paddle.
Paddle north towards Keswick and you’ll get an incredible panoramic view of Catbells and Skiddaw. Paddle south to Borrowdale, and the vibes change as it becomes quieter and feels more remote.
Compared to Windermere, boat traffic on Derwentwater is generally lighter, but you’ll come across the Keswick Launch boats and occasional traffic around the main jetties.
Derwentwater also has some of the best “just sit and take it all in” moments in the Lakes. On a still evening with the mountains reflecting in the golden hour light fells pretty special.
